INEC Provides Update On Movement Of Electoral Materials


The independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it'll complete the readying of sensitive election materials to the Nation’s 774 local government areas for the Sat elections by Thursday.


INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, while addressing newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja, aforesaid that the commission was creating sensible progress on provision for the rescheduled elections.

“I briefed you yesterday that having moved the sensitive materials to the thirty six States and therefore the Federal Capital Territory, the forward deployment to the 774 LGAs nationwide will begin today Wednesday Feb. 20 and be ended tomorrow Thursday Feb. 21.


“Already, ten states; Adamawa, Anambra, Benue, Ekiti, Jigawa, Katsina, Osun, Ogun, Oyo and Taraba States have commenced the movement of materials to LGAs today.

“Other States can do thus and conclude tomorrow. we are going to give a full rendition of movement to LGAs across all States of the Federation tomorrow.


“We are creating sensible progress on provision. Similarly, all alternative arrangements for the movement of personnel from the LGAs to the Wards are on track. we are going to totally brief you tomorrow at 3pm,’’ he said.


Yakubu conjointly disclosed that the commission had achieved a hundred per cent completion of the configuration of the smart card Readers for the elections.

He said, “The Card Readers were introduced within the 2015 general elections to facilitate the enfranchisement of voters using the PVCs. they're designed to specific polling units and solely open to be used at 8am on polling day.


“They automatically stop working by ten pm so as to forestall any illegal use before the appointed time of elections. i'm happy to report that we have currently achieved a hundred per cent completion of the configuration. we are good to go on this score.’’
